Does anybody use mullet roe for conditioning spawning clownfish (or any other fish)? I was wondering what you thought of it, versus other condiotioning foods.
Where does one get mullet roe? I use smelt roe AKA "masago" at Asian food stores. Yes it has a dye in it but it doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect. If you soak it overnight most of the dye leeches out anyway.
David,
How are you dosing roe? Are you mixing it into home prepared foods or feeding it directly. Toronto has a HUGE Asian community so acquiring things like masago is like having to walk to the corner store. (Too bad the beer store's not that close)
Thanks for the info. Seahorse source sell mulet roe, when they can get it. $25 for five ounces. I live near the Chesapeake bay, should be able to get plenty of mullet roe myself in season, but I like the Asain food store angle.
