Roe

Im looking for Roe for my fish. I tried Marina on Monterey Rd. and they didn't even know what it was, so I gave up on them. I was going to try Lion Foods on Capitol but wasn't sure if they had any and didn't want to go there until I find out that they have some in stock. Is there any local San Jose store that sells Roe? Also do any of my fish eat roe?

-Bangaii Cardinals, Percula and Ocellaris clownfish, pearly jawfish, firefish, and scooter blenny.

You might want to try someplace like 99 Ranch Market.

Roe are fish eggs. Herring Roe would be pretty small.

Best of luck,

Roy

All your fish, with the exception of the blenny should eat the roe. 99 Ranch Market, should carry what you need. There are some stores in Cupertino. Pick up some Nori while you are there.

Tobico is supposed to work for mandarins, do you have one Phong?

Me??
I don't have any Jim. No Tobico (don't even know what it is :D ) or mandarins :) ..

Hm, Isn't there a ranch 99 in San Jose? I remember there being one. I'll google and check. Anyways thanks for the responses guys. The main reason I was going to get the Roe was for my scooter blenny because the LFS never fed him enough so hes pretty skinny. Hes getting fatter though which is good but not enough to get 'plump'. I have nori and they didnt touch it at all. Even my hermits...

Yeah I heard they like the same thing. I currently have him hooked on mysis/brine shrimp although I ran out of mysis so I have to buy some soon :-p. Anyways, I bought some from reedmariculture or something like that and I guess the copepods crashed. It was fine for a couple of days. How can you measure the Salinity a small container without the use of a refractometer? I think im going to order from Ocean Pods now since I see the bottle is much more bigger then reed's but reed's is local. Thanks for the link =)

You must have a really big car. I'm driving a Honda Odysse and I don't have any problem. Could it be driver error?? :D  j/k

 I think there's an 'Everyone has the right of way' rule. Freaks the hell out of me. Especially, when there are pedestrians:eek:

Too many asian drivers in a parking lot is bad news, lol I came back from the market and found some. My scooter isnt eating any but my cardinals sure are =)

Tobiko or Uni (urchin roe) have been my two favorite sharable food with my fish. Just make sure that you get then natural Tobiko just as mentioned before. They are not orange but some what grey in color. But everything loves Uni, especially wrasses!

Is flying fish roe and herring roe the same thing? I was told it was.

If so, every year there is a herring fishing season in the San Francisco Bay to collect it to ship to Japan and then they ship it back here for sushi.

Regards,

Roy

I think that Tobiko could be flying fish, caplin (cant spell) roe, or herring roe. But I've been wrong before. It still tastes darn good whatever it is. Try putting some in a tunafish sandwich, adds the little pockets of salty crunch. Yum!!
