Pictures are worth a thousand words, so that's where I'll start:
The den as it exists right now:
The same room revamped as a fish room:
The basic plan is to get the "in-wall" look from the archway already in existance and to use the rest of the den as a fish room. Right now I'm not even really thinking about equipment specifics so much as prepping the room so that I'm able to think about such things. My questions are then related to the room, rather than the reef...
1) Currently, the room is (obviously) not set up for a 360G display tank + sump, water storage, etc. By this I mean it's standard drywall, interior paint, carpeting, etc. It is on a concrete slab though, so I don't really have to worry support from a basement underneath or anything like that. How would you go about converting the surfaces of this room into practical surfaces for a fish room? Paint/FRP/other on the walls/ceiling? As you can tell, the design of the room is a little different from your standard cube (with 45* angled walls and a slanted ceiling). Tile/coated concrete/other on the floor? How would I go about this? Complete strip of the room and start from fresh as much as possible?
2) How would you attack the existing window and archway (and eventual door that doesn't exist currently)? I figure I can use the window to my advantage for ventalation/cooling/etc, but I'm not sure exactly what I'll need to do this. The archway is another issue. I like the look of the tank in place there (36" tall stand, 30" tall tank), but I still have an opening that's 5'x22" (16" on the outsides) above the tank to think about. I want access to the tank from the outside of the room (via a hinged access panel or something similar), but I also want to cut down on excessive amounts of humidity escaping into the rest of the house. Any ideas here?
I think that's probably enough for me to get started on. Any additional tips you could throw in my direction for this part of the planning process would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your help in advance!
