Rose Anemone and a Maxima?

Hey Folks. I'm in the middle of moving to new digs, and I am designing a system involving a 90 fowlr and 20 rose anemone tank that will both be connected to a 170-180 ish gal sump (yet to be made). My rose is several years old, and is in great shape, its 7-8" across the disc. It spits off clones every time I feed it or it would probably be bigger. Anyways, the anemone and my two percs are the only planned animals for the 20, as the 90 will not be getting the lights an anemone. I was going to use a 250MH but still doing some research on that.

My wife asked if I could get "one of those purple clams" . Now, if I keep the honey interested in the tank she doesn't flinch when I drop $450 on a new skimmer or whatever. I've never kept clams but I think I have the skill to do so, and I have been reading everything on-line that I can but nothing I have found can tell me if a rose would harm a maxima if they were to contact each other. I, of course, wouldn't plan on putting them anywhere close to each other, but anemones move sometimes. And, as I said, this one likes to give me little ones so a clone could float itself to the area of the clam.

What do you think?

They don't appreciate touching, but the problem is light. Clams need baked by MH light.....roses do NOT like intense light. They seem to thrive on medium light, and when under bright MH bulbs they try to hide.

What kidn of lights is the Rose under now?

maximas are rock dwellers and do not always need MH lights just very intense lights. i have one in 55 under 6.3 watts (pc's) a gallon that has been doing great. but like i said they are a rock dweller and will do better up higher in the tank. you might want to try a derasa or squamosa. they do not need the higher light requirements and are not as touchy either. but yes they are not always as colorfull. just remember that clams are like koi, they are ment to be veiwed from above.

I've had the rose 2/3rds up in my 90, which is a standard 4 foot 90 acrylic. He is under 3 7100k 96 watt PC's and 1 96 watt actinic. Which I was told was not enough light when I got him. So I was going to upgrade, except I built my rock structure right up to the water line to give him his choice until I bought the new light. Well, he moved around for 3 days and chose that spot with lots of nearby current and has done great ever since.
I figured that I would get a 250 MH as I was under the impression that that was a good combo with the 20 high he will go in. I was going to get a pendant so I guess could move it up if that proves to be too much light.

I better go review my rose knowledge! He comes first as I am attached to him :D

If I can't find a happy medium I'll forgo the clam.

I have a RBTA and a T. Max in my 20 L both are happy and healthy under a 150w hqi. They are about 6" apart they picked thier spots in the tank

I have 2 RBTAs and 4 maximas. My tank has alot of sps in it and the flow is high in the upper regions of the tank. My Maximas prefer to be on the bottom. I'm running 2 x 250w HQI bulbs, and 2 x 110w VHOs....and my RBTA's tend to stay put in the clefts of the rockwork, and not directly exposed to the lighting.

I too have a large Rose Bulb in my tank. It sits directly under a 400 watt metal halide. There are also several clams in the tank, which the rose have never gotten close to.

I am sure if they had contact over a long time, the clam would lose, however, if the anemone chooses a place near the clam, you could always move the clam.

My 2 rbta also like to be as high to the light as they can, when the light is off they try to reach out to any light that is avaiable

Clams do not need to be "baked" by MH.
There are people here on the forum that keep clams under T5 like me and others having luck with PC.
I have seen many tanks with roses and clams all over.
As long as the two are kept apart there is no problem.

This is an old pic, I've since moved all of the clams and the anemone to another tank, but they seemed happy at the time

Ti: Oh, I know. I was just makign a point that clams are high light creatures. IME, most roses do best in slightly lower light. Most I have seen shy away from too bright lights.

This pic pretty much shows where my RBTA has decided to locate itself. The location is somewhat under the center brace of my 75 gal. Oceanic tank. The clone is hidden a bit more in the rockwork. MY lighting is 2 X 250 HQI 10k Ushios and 2 X 110w VHO URI actinics.

I have a Rbta in my clam tank, so far its been a major pits for a couple weeks now, its constantly trying to hide under every rock I have...So far it really dosent like the 250DE. Well it can etiher sink or swimm so to speak..I keep all my clams either on some shallow rock work or directly on the sand bed...
