Rose Bubble Tip Anemone For Sale

Hmmmm they don't do so well under PCs do they? I know my mom really wants one but I doubt it would do good in her 8g BioCube. What lighting are you running it under right now?

Hey Randy - did you have to use any special tricks to get the RBTA to settle down in one spot (if it has)? I'd love to get some kind of anemone, but I'm terrified it'd wander around (at least at first) stinging every SPS in its path...

Jeff~ Not really... I pretty much just put it where I wanted it, and I got lucky and it didn't move very far... I did have to turn the piece of LR a bit so that it was more visible... You can tell from all the feather dusters now visible in the pic... The Anemone was facing the back wall before I turned the rock...

One suggestion I do have is to get a tank raised anemone... I had bought 2 wild caught RBTA's in the past... One did really well for me for about a year and a half before flying away being sucked into one of my Seios... If I remember correctly you run a Seio or two... That was one of the reasons I got rid of my 1500's... The other was that it sucked up my first Chevron... The second RBTA didn't ever do well for me... It eventually disappeared behind the rockwork and never reappeared... After the second RBTA loss I had written them off until I spoke with Chris (fishdoc) at the MTRC swap about him getting one... He said tank raised was the way to go... I thought about it and my tank raised GBTA I got from Matt a couple years ago is doing great!!!
Art's RBTA by far looks the best out of all the RBTA's I've had... Within minutes it openned up and developed the bubble tip ends...

Oh, and as far as placement goes, try and put it in a place where it can put its foot deep in the rockwork... This way if it gets bothered by something, it can retract and be protected, yet still expand and receive full light... Both of my BTA's have positioned themselves like this and I think thats why they didn't move far...

Tank raised all the way. I ended up loosing a 8"++ RBTA last month after it moved around the tank 20X over. I was sad as I was counting on it to split. My GBTA's are solid and tank raised.
 
Thanks for the tips Randy. I think if I get an anemone, I'd probably go for one of the types that lives in the substrate, rather than rock - I don't think I have any space left in the rockwork that would be big enough. I've also been tempted a few times by the Aussie elegance corals as a potential host for my Clarkii because they don't wander. Supposedly the aussie versions are tolerant of a wider range of environmental conditions, but I haven't been able to bring myself to get one quite yet because my tank is really set up for SPS conditions. We'll see. Right now I have a small population of unwanted anemones (aipstasias) that seems to have started growing, so I'm going to try to deal with that first. I'm looking at ordering some berghias online and trying to breed them in my QT, then stick the offspring in the display.

I do have Seios (one from you), but they aren't in the display tank right now. I think I have one circulating my water-change bin in the garage, and the other might be in a box at the moment. For circulation in the display, I'm using a couple different kinds of modded MJs and one of the Koralias right now.

FWIW peppermints have allways worked well for me for aiptasias (that is until the one I recently added to my 29). I've allways gotten a couple before. There are two different types not including the one that looks like a peppermint (the "camel" shrimp). I'm not sure if that might be the difference.
My RBTA hasn't settled down yet:rolleyes:
It's seemingly doing well but it's moving all over my 40. I keep thinking it's stopped then it moves again.

I'm pretty sure Lord Voldemort (the hitchiker mantis whose name must not be spoken) would dispose of a peppermint shrimp, camel shrimp, and perhaps even a regular camel in pretty short order. Sort of limits my options.

And Randy, you're right - I probably don't have room on my sandbed either. Maybe you can talk to Sarah about that new tank for me - she seems to have tuned me out on the subject.

How about a tank upgrade??? A 180 would give you a foot more for your Anemone to roam... Hmmm, and you might be able to fit a few corals in there too... lol ;)
 
got a question...i bought chase's green BTA, but its not very bubbly. what is it missing that its not bubbling? am i doing something wrong? thanks!
 
Whenever I'm feeding my LPS I feed my anenomes... I guess it varies from 3-4 times a week to once every other week depending on how busy I am... Technically you don't have to feed them... A lot of times if you have a clown pair hosting them, they will bring the anemone food... I know plenty of people that don't ever feed theirs... I like to because it encourages growth... When I got my GBTA from Matt it was about the size of a quarter or half dollar... Now its about 4-5" across...
