Rose Anemone

Rose Anemone

How much are people willing to pay for one??? I can get a hold of one... maybe 2 for that matter.

It's all supply and demand, apparently. Wholesellers dont have a steady stock supply of every coral that everyone wants every week ;) Kinda goes with the xenia discussion, sure you can pick one up here or off a fellow reefer for free or for a nominal fee, but retail stores dont always have that buddy that can kick em down a frag for free, let alone enough to supply all of sacramento and surrounding areas. Most have to buy it through the wholesellers if they want to appease there demand, but with demand comes comes the price.

What I see happen alot in this hobby is the corals come in like the seasons, what may have been virtually given away during the winter may be hard to find even with a pretty penny during the summer, and vice versa.

I can get a hold of one. It is about the size of maybe a half dollar, and dude eats a lot. I can take a picture and post it maybe tomorrow... My lights are off, and he is sleeping right now. Maybe my wife can take a picture while I am at work for you.

Are they the green tinted type RBTA or the true Red ones?

Not you too! What is up with that lmao!. Reminds me of a guy that was selling "true red" ones under the same pretenses. I wanted to comment, but it was his selling thread so I couldnt

I think that is a bunch of crap to be bluntly honest. Ive seen the color variations, and to me doesnt indicate anything other than environment. Innitially when I got mine the base was a rich brown, that kinda transcended up through the bright pinkish red tenticles. Then it went porcelin white over the following year. Then it got a dingy brown base, then the dingy brown base went to emerald green under my new conditions I was providing it. Which if you honestly think about it, what color is a "true rose" brown and red? Or are you more likely to look into a garden and see a red rose with green stem? Hmmm.....

And the ones that the guy sells here in RC as "true" roses look like they need more light IMO, very elongated tenticles and orafice like it's just panning out for light.

So, I would love to hear the story behind the true rose and the "fake rose" . This hobby cracks me up when folks dont go out and directly say it, but insinuate such a thing as a generic or fake coral
:)

Well, if you have been in the salt water hobby for a while you should know that back in 1999 the only rose anemone(true) had no greenish tint on the body-no matter what lighting you had. They are more expensive. After about a year later the LFS had an abundance of the green tinted type rose anemone selling for half as much. If you want the "true red" you will pay more than the green tinted ones. And it is not a bunch of "crap" in this hobby.

Well, if you can read my signature, you should know that Ive only been in this hobby since 2001 :p

But have heard the same thing from the guy that was selling"true red" which I found equally suspicious. But over the 5 years I have been in this hobby the only reference Ive heard to a "true red" is here on RC, once by the guy I referenced and secondly by yourself.

Maybe Gresham might have some more info on the subject. As to where the "true reds" are, and why we dont see them anymore.

I dont think what your saying is crap, so much, as I think what was told to you is. Moreso, the "true" lable on anything really, but this references my own opinions and discussions, that have been grouped in with the LE discussions as well.

"I dont think what your saying is crap, so much, as I think what was told to you is".

Sorry but no one told me anything. Like I said in my post, it was from being in the hobby and knowing what was going on in the LFS market concerning RBTAs and their prices. As far as labeling is concerned if you cannot see the differences between the 2 RBTAs then, your right it shouldn't matter to you, but to someone else it does and they are willing to pay for it. Usually true RBTA are harder to come by especially in the bay area. They still are in good demand.

Cant see the difference if I never saw one ;) Would love the opportunity for it to be displayed to me. Till then I'll be happy with the untrue's or fakes, or what ever it's called for the time being :)

I remember back in 99' they were selling for like $300 a pop. The hobby got saturated with them and people were selling them for like $20. But yes thats true, there are TRUE REDS and the ones that are Red with Green tint. Its actually where they were collected. It makes a big deal on where there from. Most of the reds with green tints come from China and cost less.

Well, I guess I have the true reds because I've never seen any green tint on them. Got the original from SagitariusBC and they've split into three, all about 7 to 9 inches across when hungry. I'll have one available soon, maybe two, if I can figure out how to get them safely off the overflow or a rock that also has SPS attached.

Justin, did you buy yours locally or get them from a MARSer?

Fred,

When you are ready to sell, I might be interested. I have been interested in getting one of Shawn's anemone offspring for quite a while now.

I got mine locally when Maria and Toney were running the shop where CRS is today. I musta got mine during the end of the big flood of rbta's that there referring to after '99. Was around the end of 2003 I believe.

IIRC Shawn's has green tint to them. At least the one they gave TotalKhaos did, which I beleive too was an offspring.
