thanks again

How long has it been like that? It is not uncommon for them to.... hmmm.... shrivel?.... on occasion as they expel waste, etc. Usually a few hours later they expand back out.

mine did the same? i am very interested in why the huge change from tank to tank? i thought it might be comfort? mine does shrivel often, usually half a day or a day after i feed... but yea, i like the first pic... and that is what condition i bought mine, and now mine looks like your second picture...

IMO you need to move those corals away from it...I think it's too close to all of that other stuff and that's why It's not doing well.

it's colors seem darker in the newer pic which is a great sign. In the first pic it seemed lightly bleached but with the newer coloration its zooanthela (spelling?) seems to have made quite a come back. I would not be worried about it losing the bulb shape to its tentacles. that happens all the time and no one really has been able to explain it yet. Just know that the bulb tips are not an indicator of health, I think your anemone is fine, but as mentioned above.... kinda close to those corals. HTH

she like it there , it was near the substrate but moved to a higher place

and has been there for months

i has a porcelane carbv , since 2 days ago

looks like the food you feed your reef is what we call pappone we in the USA got the recipe from the the italians

anemones still nead a fleshy food like shrimp krill or small fish

i do think your anemone looks much healthier in the pics where it has the long tentacles it was bleached a little when you first got it.

ok i will do that again

but i don`t think that with that the bubble tips will come back

or they will????

thanks everyone for the answers

i heard silversides are good, not sure if you can get that... i got my anenome a month ago? i forget... he eats fast! i can't wait until he grows big! my bubbles tips come and go slowly... i like the bubble tip look...

It is not uncommon for bubble tip anenomes to lose thier bubbles. It just happens dont worry. As long as it is growing you are fine.

The crab pics are awesome!

I too am thinking of adding a bubble tip to my tank, my worry is this.... My wife has had a few in the different tanks we had over the past few years. Some of them moved around alot and some were very happy and stayed put. When they move they seem to do alot of coral damage. I would love to have one but am worried it could move about. Any suggestions on this?

this is an aswer from eric borneman

"Its definitely a load of hooie. I've kept these and many clones for many years and none of them keep their bulb tips, with or without clownfish. I see others occasionally in people's tanks that do have the bulb tips. Charles Delbeek found a while back that really strong light seemed to keep their bulb tips, if I recall correctly, but I have some under 1000w metal halides and still no bulb tips and I have seen bulb tips on people with much much lower light. I don't think anyone has any idea why or how they are maintained in captivity yet. "

thanks guys

When I first got my gbta, it was bleached and would bubble up all day under the halides. Now that it is recovering, it only bubbles up if disturbed, like right after feeding.

Mine has never moved other then stretching it's foot and spinning around. According to Karen's Bubble page, if you feed them on a regular basis, it shouldn't move. You could also build an anemone rock. This is a pile of lr that isn't touching the glass or any other lr. Bubbles don't like to/can't cross soft sand. The only way they can leave is by drifting. Keep them well fed, and they shouldn't drift.

From all I've read it's generally a mystery on why BTA's either have bubbles or not.

That said, I'll share some personal observatinons FWIW.

I purchased a large 14"+, RBTA from a local reefer about 5 yrs ago. It had no bubble tips, and the seller said he never saw it show bubbles. I kept if for a couple of yrs in a 58G under 400w MH, never showed bubble tips for me either.

2-3yrs ago I moved it into my new 120G system ("it" was 3 RBTA's by then BTW). The new system had cycled and had LR and some corals in it for a few months before I moved the RBTA's in. Ca, alk, SG exct all were close between the tanks. The new tank was set up with TM salt, the old tank with IO.

Within hours of moving the RBTA's to the new system, I saw bubbles for the first time? The bubbles remained for many months but did gradually decline a good but over 2 yrs, though the anemones seemed to continue to thrive (10+ of them now).

I reccently added "trace elements" for the first time (I have always just relied on water changes, but I can't say I do enough of them). Within a day or so, the bubble flared way up like I hadn't seen in a yr or so.

All of my exp is purely anecdotal, but might offer something to consider.

My *GUESS* about what might be going on is that my husbandry may have been creating a long term depletion of "trace elements" or some specific trace element? Further, that moving to a different system with relatively new saltmix, and later dosing "trace elements", may both have temporarily alleviated the problem of whatever was getting depleted.

I'm in no way saying that "I've found the bubble tip secret", at all. I am throwing an idea out there to solicite feedback or maybe even stir curiosity??? My exp probably isn't generalizable, but I'd love to know if anyone has seen anything similar, or not?

jk

More anecdotal info....I had one rose that became 20 roses. So all the clones are in the same tank at the same time. some are very bubbly and others are huge and long tentacled. The bubblier ones are closer to the 400 watt lights but some that are in the same light levels are not bubbly.... Same with water current. Those close to the Tunze stream seem bubblier but then there is one that is in calmer waters that is bubbly. So, judging from my solid mass of RBTA's with the same genetics, I'd say those that are in brighter light and higher flow are bubblier than those otherwise, but not absolutely so! In otherwords... who knows??
