Rotifer floss

Oh no problem. We are by far their largest buyers, and I highly suspect we sell a lot more then they do (besides their sales to us).

That explains why I think of you instead of PAES for rotifer floss :D

Now if they could just drop the Pentair part and go back to the old AES pre P. Not only is the new website horrendous, product selection has scaled way back...especially the non Pentair branded items.

There are a TON of skues not listed on either the site or the catalog.... but you need to know the right person. My connect has quit to move onto other things, so I no longer have an insider to call. For how long those skues will be there, dunno, probably not long.

The website went to hell a few years ago. The print catalog was the only thing I'd use.

Lot's of stuff I have to call to get sku's for, especially parts. I've still got a couple of contacts that are worthwhile, and few that aren't....the ones that aren't came along with Pentair....

One of the things that they did that really annoyed me when they fully integrated was to lump all the various universities accounts into one account number. I'd order stuff and it would get sent to different lab, and the invoice would get sent to a grad student in yet another lab  Took about a years worth of emails and head banging to get them to separate those accounts again.

Close, but no... Years of research are behind this product. Fiber size, construction, open area, threads that come off, etc are very critical in making it effective.

Seriously???? Come on I just bought 2 pieces from Reed and it looks like the exact same stuff I can get at my LFS. I'm going to have to see some of this "research" to believe that.

There is literally 10K samples of like materials in the catalog from the manufacturer. Thread size, shade, texture as well as the thickness of material and open vs closed space is really crucial to this. We even have to do an internal process involving heat and blown air on some of the shipments as they compress them too much to be as effective as we require.

Trust me, we tried common batting as they're much easier to procure. They are far less ineffective.

We're the worlds leading (and largest) supplier of marine phytoplankton concentrates and live marine zooplankton. Hatcheries are most our business, not hobbyists. This is what we do. We want our customers successful, thus we supply the tools we feel are the most effective. Given our research in the rotifer field, and the global demand for them from us, this isn't contested by aquatic professionals.

I am a regular customer of Reed mariculture. At first I too was looking for a cheaper alternative, but I can tell you when it comes to my rotifers, I have no problem paying $10 to ensure I have the right stuff. Think of it this way, I'm sure there is nothing special in the Coca-Cola Syrup once you get the ingredients, but Coca-Cola isn't going to give it up because they spent lots of time and money coming up with it. It IS a little ridiculous to compare Reeds to Coca-Cola BUT the principle is there. We can buy the sams club cola brand from sam's club, and we can buy our unspecific filter floss from the pet store, but why bother with inferior products for a very small savings. We don't exactly need filter floss by the yard. When they start selling the floss for $20, then we should start looking elsewhere.

I man, if we start selling it for that, our commercial customers aren't going to be very happy.

Before I worked here, I tried other batting so save money, it really wasn't much of a savings as I lost too many rots in the process. Trust me, I'm a frugal reefer, as frugal as they get. DIY is my mantra.

I'd probably still buy it.
