I am expecting some reidi babies soon hopefully. So I am starting a rotifer cx. How does one know if your culture 'crashes'? What would I look for? would the water appear turbid?
Don't know what happens if they crash. I've never been able to get them to crash.
The damn things keep getting in my brine shrimp and nanno cultures and wiping them out.
I've left them without food for a week and they still survive.
Recently I turned the air off for 5 days before cleaning the bucket out and they still survived with no food or air.
Turbid water occurs even when they are alive as their feces foul the water and some foods coagulate and become uneatable to the rots.
If the rot culture were to crash, the first thing I would expect would be a foul smell in the area of the container.
An easy way to tell if crashed is to remove the air and let the container sit idle while shinning a bright light on the surface. If alive the rots will form in mass at the top where the light is pointed.
You could also just put some under a kids microscope and see if they are moving.
