rotifers

just a quick question, with a continuous culture of rotifers what have you found the best way to remove the rotifers, what do you use to strain them through before they go into the larvae tank?
thanks

I'm using paper coffee filters. I have a little plastic cup with a hole cut in the bottom. I fit the filter into that and then simply strain rotifer culture water through that. I then take out the filter and simply dip it into the fry tank to release the rotifers. Seems to work.

I use a 53 micron plankton collector from Reef Crew here in Canada. I used to use coffee filters and it works. Much slower but it does work. I used the cone shaped ones. The basket type didn't work well. It wasn't fine enough I don't think.

I used coffee filters at first, then I tried the sieve from Florida aqua farms. The sieve works much quicker. Well worth the money.

I make my own, and all the ones we use at Reed. I get 53 micron mesh from small parts, McMaster and AES :)

For continues culture be sure to harvest at least 30% a day :)

www.rotifer.com has some good tips for continues culture.

Good to see you Gresham.....Haven't seen you online for a long time. www.rotifer.com is an excellent site. I used it when I ordered some rotifers from Reed. My culture is still going and I harvest about 50% per day. I need a fishroom hehe
