routine cleanings

how often do i need to clean my main pump ?
exactly how is it done (never did it before)

is there any other parts that i need to conduct routine cleanings?

What kinda pump do u have?

6 months to 2 years. sooner if you drip calk anywhere near it. tunze's new pumps are 2 years under light conditions.

I try to clean mine every 3 to 6 months. I take the pump apart and soak the volute and impeller in white vinegar. Than I use a tooth brush and clean the volute and impeller the best that I can. I also do the same for my power heads.
