Roxy I need to ask you a dog ?

why do we think it is humane to Euthanize our pets but not our family? do you treat your pets better or worse than your family?

Carl [/B]

Just ask your self this if a puppy and a little girl was falling off a cliff and you could only save only one....... I just hope you say the little girl. Some people would save their own animal before a human being which IMO something is not right in your head if you do save the animal and not the human......

I love animals a lot but when it comes to pain and suffering for them, why prolong their life ? IMO thats just selfish and cruel.

Again Its up to the owner to do what think is best. I thought it was best to put my animals to sleep I could not stand watching my dogs trying to walk and use the bathroom. Whining when we would walk up stairs or when they tried to get up to try to eat or drink. IMO thats a horrible way to live. Just having Pain all day and there is nothing you can do other than dope them up with meds that might not work or even completely take away the pain.

Forgot to say my family would not want me suffering either We all know that if something bad happens in where we are brain dead to just let us go in peace. My mom especially made this clear to me. She is Like your Dad she would not want to be in the hospital living by a machine.

of course i would choose the little girl. what does that have to do with my question?

would you prolong the pain and suffering of a family member who can't walk up the stairs anymore or is in pain all the time?

last month we euthanized two cats that were 18 or 19 years old. they were sisters and just old. all systems were failing.

i hate just sitting around, except when i am on the computer. i don't watch more than one hour of TV per day. i don't understand how people can just sit all weekend and watch other people do sports.

i don't want to be confined to a bed, respirator or not.

I think she's just pointing out the disparity in people's priorities... Nothing more.

I agree with your sentiments regarding end of life issues. Prolonging suffering=BAD, especially if your decision is based on emotion instead of reason.

I myself had to put down one of my cats about a year ago; he was almost 20. I still miss him - VERY much! - but we did what we had to do. It was difficult - it always is! - but it was also the responsible thing to do. He died in my arms, as did the others.

Rough for me? Hell, yes. But I tend to believe it's better for the animal... So I stay with them.

Anyway.

I haven't actually FILED a DNR order yet, but I've got the paperwork... IMO every person should have something IN WRITING that makes their wishes known. Otherwise, it's anybody's guess as to what will happen...

So. Julie. Any news?

that is an understatement. Make SURE that writing covers everything in the event of a tragedy. Spell it out clearly!!

My mother suffered 3 strokes during and after a procedure on her brain 3 years ago ~ that left her in a way nobody would like to see their mother. She had a "living trust" which spelled out her wishes in the event of catastrophic injury, inc. a DNR, but the executor had a different interpretation of what she wrote and against other advice didn't follow instuctions to the letter and she ended up getting stronger and then was left a vegetable. I know this is getting OT and I am responding to something previously written but I'm saying this because its an issue that's sooo important and is very near and dear to my heart.

Crud... My dog isn't even two yet, and the thought of putting her down soem time is getting me all teary.

Thanks for ruining my day guys!
;)

well then you don't want to read "Merle's Door" you'll be crying like a baby. still one of the best books i've read.

Carl

How do we know that one second of pain isn't better than an eternity of the alternative? I am so sorry that you have to go through this as a dog owner myself I couldn't imagine having to make this decision. What ever you decide stick with your decision and don't question it either way. Good luck...

off topic but do they have dog insurance? how much?

I have asked a similar question on a dog forum about is dog insurance worth it? many breeders said its not worth and its just better to throw in money in a separate account every month for your pets.

oh yeah went to a dog show last weekend at valley college and there were there white dogs that look like akitas or siberian huskys. but i dont think theyre any. know that breed?
