Royal Gramma In A QT

I bought a royal gramma 2 weeks and he has been in the QT. I have a piece of live rock in the tank and he hides and does not come out. I see him when i turn the corner to the room then he darts to the rock. I do not want to stress him out but i want him to get used to seeing people and not run and hide. Because it can be kinda hard to see if he has any issue when i can never see him. I thought about removing the rock and putting some pvc pipes in there so i can see him better. Please let me know what you guys think and tanks for the advice.

Don't put liverock in qt, if the fish has any parasites or diseases it will go into the rock. And if you treat with copper it will kill the liverock. Pvc is a much better substitute.

Just my 2 cents

He's frightened because he's in a new place with no good hiding spots.
Give him some pieces of PVC so he has more holes, and try feeding him something tasty to see if he'll come out to eat.

I really am using this this as an observation tank the piece of live rock is disposable i used it just to start my cycle.

It kinda funny i know he is eating because some food particle go under the rock and i can see him eat them because of the glass bottom tank

What you are seeing is normal behavior for a RG in QT. As noted above, give him a few hiding places so he feels more secure. You may or may not see him in the water column while he is in QT. As long as he is eating, I would not worry.

Once he gets into the DT, you should observe more normal behavior.

Agree with Chris...once in the DT he'll act normal. I had a wrasse act like this and I set up a mirror angled so I could watch him without him seeing me...the things we go through:)

Ha ha...I have a Kole in QT right now and have to crack the door to look at him. Otherwise he hides in PVC when I come in the room. :)

I have 6 RG's in my tank.

Some are bold, some are shy.

If I want to make sure all 6 are still there, I have to move away from the tank and wait. Wait til the shy ones are comfortable enough to come out. This usually requires that the other fish in the tank do not come to their corner of the tank. However, if the other fish see me, then they swim nearest to where I am. Needless to say, it takes a while to verify that they are all still there.

There are 3 that are almost always out and about. Two more will come out fairly easily. The sixth one, however, is really shy.
