does any body know what color/colors grow turf algae the best? I would like to replace the cfl's on my ATS with led's but i am unsure as to witch color would work best to grow algae. My thought would be a mix of warm white and red but thats just a guess. most times in this hobby we are trying to NOT grow algae lol

also how many 3 watt leds would be about the same light output of a 43 watt spiral cfl bulb? I know there are a lot of factors but an approximation is good enough for an ATS

Shallow water turf waters get a nice full shot of daylight, so a typical 6500k daylight bulb works really well ;)

thanks. I will have to do some research but I thought that plants/algae used the reds and greens more than anything,,that's why they reflect green? I was just thinking that if the typical 6500k had a lot of green then that would be a lot wasted?

They use red and blue, and reflect the green as it isn't used. Warmer bulbs still have plenty of the unneeded green. They will work, but the 6500k tend to have higher PAR and that's what really counts.
