RPE's melting away!

Some are thin at the base and buldge out to normal size and some have a white film all on the bases. I had around 30 polyp but now I'm down to 20 or so. Some look great and some just close up and go away. When I first got them...I dipped them using the reccomended recipe and found one nudi. Since then they have gone down hill. Any ideas? All other zoa's are fine.

Please post a picture.

A quick guess?... When you dipped them, you killed something inside the rock, (sponge, clam, tunicate) which is rotting and the decaying matter is producing hyrogen sulfide that is killing them.

It's just a guess, but along with pictures you should really post parameters. Test Alk, Calcium, Salinity, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia and Phosphate.;)

Could be due to alot of stress. I placed mine at the bottom of my tank after purchase and they're doing great. Don't move them around too much and keep them from alot of direct light until they heal up. Paly's are hardy like zoa's & I'm pretty sure they'll make it if your water parameters are fine.

I'd probably frag the healthy zoas off the rock and glue them to a new piece.
Hydrogen Sulfide smells like rotten eggs.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but a heavy Iodine dip is not going to solve the problem of decaying material. Usually it'll cause an even bigger problem.

Getting the zoas as far away from the problem is the best solution.;)

Here is an article on how to best frag your zoas.

Update
I cleaned all the rotting zoo's off the rock... The smell was horrible. They look alot better now and none of the remaining polyps are closing. This might be short term but as soon as the first sign of something wrong I'm going to frag whatever I can save.

Why is it your favorite ones get sick first? Is it a rule?lol Can't kill the common ones.
