RS232 Port

I just got a profilux from a friend, and im not sure how to get it to work on my PC. He used a cable connected to the RS232 port that turns into a USB port. I downloaded what I think was the correct software, but when I try to connect it says not found. Am I missing a driver for the USB maybe? I plan to order the wireless adapter tonight, but wanted to get it to work first.

Wireless is nice, but i would go for the PIII upgrade for roughly the same price!

As for your question, I used a converter also to connect to the controller. The driver must be loaded and working before you try to connect. It should have come with the converter.

Once your computer "sees" the converter, then connect it to the controller and start the profilux software. When you try to connect, it sometimes works and other times does not... I found that everytime I started my computer, it would assign a different Com port to the converter. Therefore, you need to go to the Com port set-up within the Profilux software and have it search for it. My takes a second or two... then save the settings and re-connect on the outer screen.

If the controller does not find the converter within the Com ports, then there is something wrong on the computer side of the puzzle.

Hope that helps...

You do need to load the converter driver first before connecting and as above, then set the port in profiLux control.

If going for P3 upgrade dont get the wireless converter there is no point ;)

I was 'lucky' because I had an old desktop around the house that has an RS232 port. It was a minor pain to drag it down to the fishtank but it did let me get my Profilux programmed throught the computer. My P3 upgrade ships tomorrow (I hope) but I didn't want to wait from November when I received my P2.

Fun for all...

Fun for all...

I've been waiting like all of us for this upgrade! Hope it ships and we all get an early Christmas Present...

I am waiting as of today to book the shipment on a flight, this will then be fast tracked, we should start shipping as planned next week from Canada

Direct shipping clients

Progressive reef
GHL Direct (obviously)

All other dealers did not take up our direct shipping option.

Over 80% of the ordered P3's will be going out in the first wave, and we have been informed the second wave will be earlier than expected also.

Sorry one more question. I know you say i need the P3 upgrade, but is there a specific one I should be ordering? Also, how will that help my situation of it not connecting to the PC? Does the upgrade come with an easier way to connect? Any idea on what that would run me.

I think the problem is when I got the controller he sent me a cable that converts it to USB, but I didnt have the driver. The drivers im downloading doant seem to work. I may just have to pickup a new cable with a driver.

Hi

The P3 upgrade kit comes with

LAN connection
Built in on board webserver
USB connection
and of course RS232

The LAN is capable of wireless connectivity when connected to a wireless bridge.

Which version of Windows are you running? That adapter did not need a driver for me when using Windows Vista and Windows 7. After I connected it, I went into device manager to find out which COM port the computer gave the adapter and set the profilux software to that COM port.

I would guess you are using Windows XP?

windows Vista and 7 will search and install the latest ProfiLic driver (spelled correctly) This is the same driver that GHL have on their website
