So I purchased a RBTA from my LFS last Saturday. My maroon clown paired right up w him. Seemed fine the first 2 days, was open, moving around the tank(till it found a spot) looked fine. For the past 2 days it'll open up but then get all shrively looking, just doesn't look good at all. PH is 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5.0ppm( a little high but could that be it?), specific gravity is 1.025, temp is 79 deg F. I have 2 96w PC fluorescents. I'm wondering why it's looking so crappy? Is it possible that it's hungry? I know it'sbeen at my LFS for at least the past month & who knows what it's feeding regimen has been. Anyone have any suggestions? Is it normal for them to act like that initially? Is it just acclimating to the tank? Thanks in advance.

Is it just acclimating to the tank?

+1. Although it wouldn't hurt to feed it some small piece of shrimp, or fish.

I wouldn't worry unless it's been in your tank for a while, they take days/weeks to acclim themselves correctly to a new environment. This'll involve expanding, shrinking, walking, hiding and closing up completely til they are happy.

Also, the nitrates won't be a problem :)
