Rubbermade roughneck 54 gallon

Has anyone ever drilled a Rubbermaid roughneck 54 gallon or used it for a sump, head tank, propagation tank, or whatever? I have one I am planning on connecting to my current tanks.

I've read several posts about roughnecks, but none of them this specific type. I have not found a soul who has said it leached chemicals just people who say they heard it somewhere. Some people have said they had problems with them and won't use them in the past, but don't give any info on why or which one they used.

I used a rubbermaid container very similar to the one in the picture. It served me well until it started leaking. It started to leak right at the seem of the design on the side of the container. it stated as a pin hole leak and slowly grew. I have heard that saltwater will make the inner surface of these containers brittle. I know the ones used for feed on farms will hold up fine. Sorry I don't have a picture for you.

I really don't have the funds for another one and I am not sure I can find one that is about the same size and dimensions, this one just about fits perfectly on the book case. I just need to change the height of my shelves.

I may use this one for a fresh water sump/live bearing breeder.

I've been using a roughneck trashcan for storing fresh RO/DI for nearly 6 months now and have not noticed any ill effects.

The problem with one like you have displayed, is, when you fill it it becomes more rounded at top-- causing it to pull at the base.. it would probably do OK half filled.. (I did one for a year- it scared me) went to rubbermaid "stock tank"
