There is a thread in the Advanced Forums section that talks all about that. Sorry I don't have a link, but it's one of the few threads that have more than 3-4 pages.
I run rubble rock in the area of the first baffle of my sump. this is also the area that my refugium returns to the sump. I don't know of any advantage that rubble rock has over regular live rock except for the fact that it has more surface area than larger peices of live rock (more surface area for bacteria to colonize). The disadvantage is that it is more surface area for detritus to collect. I'm not as paranoid about detritus as many others on this board so I don't see it as a disadvantage.
its all the same, live rock. Only difference is perhaps a big piece of rock would not fit into the small chambers of the nano cube type. Take a hammer wrapped in a towel and you got rubble just like russ says.

Of course, just be carefull and dont have high flow going through there, this sand is easily disturbed.
I have a mixture of sands in my fuge for that reason. And I got some Tonga branch and hammered it into decently small pieces.
Threw some Harvested Pods, shrooms,Xenia down there and some fragged Florida Ricordeas as well for some extra nutrient export. Im trying to see whats stronger...Xenia, (2)Shrooms or Cheato.(Trying to see how well Gregs masterplan of an Xenia farm works.)
Tonga since its less dense and has many tiny holes, crevices for pods to repopulate, and smash that mother with a craftsman where it hurts!
