Running carbon all the time?

Is it necessary to run carbon all the time and how often does it need to be changed?

Some people run it all the time (I do) If you are going to do it part time, you will end up having to change it before every restart because the water it is in will become stagnate. I change mine every 4 - 6 weeks

I run it all the time and change it every 3 weeks.

Anyone ever have issue with running too much carbon? I run it in my nano because I dont have a skimmer. I always rinse it really well first but every time I change it out it seems to pi$$ everything off for a few days. I thought it could be that my light intensity was changing with the water becoming so clear but I have taken par readings at the change and its very minimal.
