running oxygen tank into aquarium?

given the problems many have with low oxygen in tank, especially during winter when houses are closed up more and co2 levels are higher, has anyone ever tried running an oxygen tank (like emphasyma sp? patients use) into their aquarium or skimmer in a similar way to the way ozone is dosed?

Would this bring up oxygen levels significantly? are there any risks to doing this, other than that oxygen is flammable?

also, would if you did this would it be better to use pure oxygen or diluted some how?

I know you can just plum the skimmer to outside air, but this is not possible where I live and in winter I am afraid the bitter cold air would lower temp in tank a LOT.

any comments are welcome, thanks :)

Elevated CO2 does not mean O2 is depleted. Both can be elevated at the same time. :)

One can certainly bring up O2 with oxygen gas, but I'd be very careful to not drive O2 too high. During a power failure that might be desirable, although I'd prefer to do it with compressed normal air.

would running compressed air give any benefit over just pushing air in with an air pump? I have occassionally considered trying to run my old air pump into the intake tube on my euro-reef style pump, but I have no idea what the effect would be. not sure if that would help skimming or add more oxygenation or not, your thoughts?

how would you recommend getting the most bang for the buck with compressed air? running it into the skimmer or directly in tank, or another method?

what are the risks if O2 gets too high? would they neccessitate a dissolved oxygen meter?

Only if there is no power to run the air pump. :)

That may send too much air into it.

Are you talking about normal aeration, or in a power failure?

Not for aeration with normal air, but with compressed O2 it could be a concern, IMO. I do not know the symptoms.
