Rust from sump

My previous tank had a sump/refug in our storage room. Basically I built the overflows through the wall. The issue I had was that certain things in the storage room would rust. Trying to set a tank up again but the wife is fighting me on this. Any ideas or thoughts on how to prevent this. The room is not small.

Ventilation is the key to this! If the room is on an outside wall you could put an exhaust fan in pretty easily. That would help quite a bit.

The room is on an outside wall and happens to have the vent from the bathroom running right above it. I assume I could put in a vent fan and connect it to this ventilation. Is that kind of what you have in mind?

Ya... That would help quite a bit, if you can run a separate one that would be better so your not venting that air back into the bathroom.

Ya, keep humidity down via vents or dehumidifiers.
