rust in water ?

I have a steel frame holdind my 40 g tank over a 55 gallon sump , its powder coated black , recently I noticed above the skimmer it has some rust bubbling through and now I know whats next . I want to get rid of this stand and go wood . but for now what happens with any drops of rusty water that went into the tank , how can it effect my water conditions . changing the stand is not going to happen overnight . so it will be getting some more rust drips while i work on a new build . I am running activated carbon . I havent noticed any real issues yet .

I would think if its only a drop here and there, between the carbon and your skimmer, there shouldnt be a big problem. But I would try to get a new stand asap.

POR 15... Like armor coating your metal

yeah i would at least put rustoleam on it till you get a new stand

rustoleum is ok but scratches easy, then the scratch rusts and spreads. POR 15 is often used on car restorations, mostly on undercarriage parts, so it holds up to abuse really well

it was powdercoated steel , and its above the sump , i would not spray paint anywhere near the system .
