Rusted Vortech MP10 impeller?

I was cleaning my pumps and noticed this on my MP10 impeller, thinking it might explain some recent mystery tank issues. Do these rust or is this something else?

Yes, they all do that and when you ask Vortec about it they will tell you they do not know why it does that.

Really? I thought they were ceramic. Can't say I'm enthused about these...

they're metal coated in ceramic....I think they all do this.....they sell replacements for about 20 bucks.....they seem to last a couple/few years then start rusting on the end just like that...they guarantee for one year....not much help, they usually make it one year
