There is a nice rusty gorgonian at one of my LFS. I have been wanting a gorgonian but I want a photosythetic one. Everything I read online says it is photosynthetic just make sure it is in medium to high flow with adeqaute light. I am not worried about the light or flow... just want to make sure a rusty gorgonian is in fact photosynthetic...

no it is not at phishy's. Yeah I really want one but the feeding part is a PITA... put it this way my fish are fed off an automatic fish feeder lol.

the gorgonian will probably do ok with frozen cyclopeeze which is not a pain to feed and your fish will love it also, I am no expert on gorgs or non photo corals as Iam just getting into them myself, so hope fully some one else will chime in

I keep a specimen of Muricea sp. that was sold to me as a "Rusty Gorgonian". My specimen is definitely photosynthetic.

They are easy to keep, and grow like weeds. As long as you provide it with good flow and moderate to intense light you don't have to worry about feeding it. I don't spot feed mine anything, but it does take up the food I feed my non-photosynthetic gorgonians.

I have the base of the gorgonian sitting at the bottom of my 75 gallon reef. It has grown to the top of the tank, and I have to prune back the branches, or they stick out of the top of the water.

I have a rusty gorg too... I feed my tank daily with frozen cyclopeeze and these guys really do grow fast. I made a cut 2 weeks ago and the area has already healed up and has rounded out nicely. They are easy to keep and while photosynthetic, I believe they'll be a lot happier and show much more polyp extension with supplemental feeding.
