Im planning on converting an MTC Pro 6500 countercurrent skimmer (6ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ diameter, 48ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ total height, 36ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ contact chamber) into a needle wheel driven skimmer. My question is how many Sedras or Needle wheel pumps do I need? I was thinking two Sedra 9000s. Are there any cheaper alternatives??

Also the skimmer is too large for an in sump application so whichever pump I use will be plumbed into the side of the skimmer housing. I was planning on mounting the superior surface of the pump with the side of the skimmer going vertically. Are there any adjustable out of sump riser pipes to control the water level or will I need to use a gate valve? Thanks!

Also how are the Gen X submersible GX2400 pumps. I was thinking they would be a cheaper alternative to the Sedras

Did you get any info on this? I ran across a pro 6500 and would like to eliminate the airstones...
