Ok well I just got the ok to start another build. I will be consolidating a few small tanks and getting rid of a frag tank that I started but never really finished, heh heh... Well the vision is to have a 30"L x 30"W x either 20" or 24"T tank. Probably built out of acrylic with an oversized external overflow. Its probably going to have an extra thick black back to accomodate the overflow grate and possibly a closed loop system. I will be building the stand myself. I will probably use a sea side aquatics skimmer that I bought for another tank that is collecting dust. As far as flow I have not decided yet what to use. I am thinking of using an eheim for a return pump and possibly vortechs or tunzes that I can control via an apex. Im pretty sure that Im going the apex route for a controller. Ok so thats a little background lol.
So on to the questions. My vision is to house either a haddoni or gigantea with two beautiful onyx perculas. I already have the perculas in another tank. But Im waiting until I have the setup finished and ready for the nem. So what type of lighting would you all reccomend. Please give a brief description of the tank and lights you are using with your nems. I am leaning towards possibly DIY an led light that will have 60 3w crees with a 3-2 blue to white ratio. I am leaning towards the leds specifically because I will be able to control the output of the light easier and design a lighting schedule that will be tailored to the nems needs. I know both of the nems i mentioned above have different light requirements, so thats where the versatility comes in. The tank might house a few other corals like acans, scollies, or maybe some other things, but the main concern is the nem. I could easily do with out the coral, but the nem is the main concern and this tank is being built specifically around a potential 10"-20" nem. So if anybody out there has a similar set up or can reccomend what size, type of light that would be good for this set up please chime in. I am not opposed to t5 or even MH. I just think that i will have more versatility with leds and an apex controller. I did look at the ati t5 dimmable lights and they are pretty awesome. Nevertheless I have about 50 leds 3w cree blue and white leds just laying around that I bought on a group buy about a year ago that I never used.
Ok long thread, again please explain your experience with your nem and the lighting on your system. thanks in advance for your positive responses.
