I got this anemone 4 days ago and if has not attached to anything ,not floating around the tank but lies on it's side alot of the time what is wrong my tank has been up 6monthsor more the water parremeters are -nitrates 5-nitrites-0 ammonia-0 ph-8.2.Why is it not attaching to anything

was it attached in the store? what color is it? alot of them are bleached. may be that you didnt get a healthy one to start with.

not sure if it was attached at store ,the color is tan with white tips.Is it possilbe for them to have two mouths this one has a second hole in one of the nobs(it has 7or7 nobs )this one is not just one round piece it has raised nobs(I call them)one of the nobs has a hole in it like a mouth.

Can you get a pic? Where are these nobs, are they on the underside or the foot? How big is the hole? If it is a tear there is little hope for it, but lets hope its not. Do you think you did anything for it to have torn? Or do you think at the LFS they tore it when getting it out? Do they have a return policy cause you should get your money back if its their fault.

well I thought I replyed to this but I quess not, can't get pics no camera ,the nobs are on the top ,I'm not sure but I don't think I did anything but not sure, well it's not looking to good tonight ,the foot look funny to me and is shunk up would not eat and the stickyness is very little, I have no luck with anemones if this one dies I don't think I will get another one just to hard on me when they die ,when I don't know what I did wrong thanks

no I use well water could that be the problem I was thinking about getting water from walmart ,there has to be a reason why I can't keep anemones if I get water from walmart how much will I haft to change in the begining I going to walmart friday so if I could get an answer before then maybe I could change it then I'm doing my regular water change tonight I do it every wensday about 10% What could be in my water that could affect the anemones this way (I do have iron water the kind that makes brown streaks in the tub)could this be the problem thanks

change as much as you can. I would do at least half, more if you can. I am also on a well but I have an RO/DI filter to filter out the stuff we don't want in our reef tanks. That is pretty much a necessity, not an option, for a reef tank. They are pretty reasonable on ebay usually. I have kept my sebae for 5 years now, and got him right after I switrched to RO water. Another thing is to put some carbon in a mesh bag in a heavy flow area of your sump, it will help to absorb some of the stuff in your water.

thanks for a quick reply, will try to change as much as I can do you think I should wait until friday and change the water (all my nitrites and nitrates and ammonia are o ph8.2)and one other thing since my anemone is turning over should I turn it back over I don't like to keep touching it ,but don't like to see it turned over like that fell sorry for it thanks

one more question rhdoug about the lights I have t5s and 2 regular lights that came with the tank there are 37 watts each is that enough light or can I add regular light bulbs to the system and help with lights just a question (sound crazy but would like to save the anemone )if that would be the problem not enough light

Do a water change ASAP.
Turn him over and lightly wedge him between some rocks down near the sand. If he is disenegrating or smells really bad he is gone.
A lot of folks will tell you it is not enough light, and it is a bit on the low side. If you can get him to eat anything he may be ok in there, I have kept them under 80 watts and they were fine.

thanks for the help ,I did the water change with well water and will change as much as I can friday with walmart water and see what happens ,I wedged it between 2 rocks and hope it stays upright for the night tryed to feed it again tonight and wouldn't eat will try tomorrow and see what happens I think I will try just shrimp since I have been trying silverside and won't eat ,will let you know how things go and thanks again

What I meant was an RO water change, the well water is full of metals, etc that is basically poison to inverts. It also fuels algae growth.

Just chop up the shrimp into small pieces, or try feeding him really tiny foods like mysis shrimp through a turkey baster (brine shrimp is not very nutritious unless soaked in vitamins). I doubt that it will eat until it is happy in its environment, however. What is your salinity? It should be close to 1.025 for inverts like coral and anemones.

I did the water change but wasn't r/o water will do that tomorrow and my salinity is 1.025 or can I use city water and declorinate it,I can get some at my sons house he has saltwater tank and his is doing fine but either way I will do a change again tomorrow

Well or city water, it doesn't matter, water needs to be filtered through a RO (or RODI) unit for a reef tank if the tank is to be successful. Period. Saltwater fish tanks, those without invertebrates, can do ok with unfiltered city or well water. A reef tank has different rules than a basic saltwater tank.
