Sad Day for my fish

Just moved my tank and to battle a little algae that began to pester the **** out of me I went lights off for a week and axed the feeding except for twice in the weeks time....

The algae is gone and I really stressed my Copperband Butterfly....he wouldnt eat for a day after but then started eating again...I have had him for over 2 years now....

today I noticed he wouldnt eat again and was acting a bit lethargic...but i always wait and see ....i waited and a what I saw a few hours later was him stuck to the side of my Tunze....turned off the Tunze as his fin is injured on that one side and he cant swim properly so the pumps just blow him around( I have alot of flow in the tank)....a couple hours later he is stuck the bottom of a measley maxi jet 900 that is in the back of the tank to keep from dead spots...turned it off....a cycle to say the least...

i dont think given the finicky nature of the CBB's that he will make it through this one...decided the only manner to quickly put him down is in ice water..(i dont want to just slam him with a hammer)
even if he hangs around a few days i dont think he will begin to thrive again after this especially if he cant swim properly...

I always laughed at people who got upset when a fish died..but after you have one for a couple of years you get attached and it really blows to see something that was somewhat avoidable bring their downfall....id rather not watch him suffer...

2 lessons learned...dont laugh at people when their beloved fish dies because it will happen to you and number 2----now I understand the finicky behavior even more so of CBB's(even after having fairly decent success of keeping him over 2 years) so you have to be very careful with fish that are considered finicky(they are so for a reason) and in general because after all the time and effort you spend with them you may become attached

ugggh..just reread it...sounds sappy....ill post it anyways

you have some type of qt you can get going where the fish can attempt and settle down a bit?

maybe worth the effort to see if it can make it through the ordeal..
it may still be able to recover in a bit of time.

this was ongoing when i started the thread because it was so imminent i felt like writing but.....right before you posted he was so messed up his beak went between the cover on the stream and was injured ...there was no making it after that...i had to put him down ...just did it a few minutes ago...couldnt watch him suffer...there was absolutely no coming back after that one....

it really sucks to have to do that...pretty disappointed...he really made a nice centerpeice fish and had him feeding out of my fingers too
