it truly bothers me knowing i sold a guy some rasta corals and come to find out there being sold in a shop for 20 a polyp!

i spend my hard earned money i bust my butt for to sell a few pieces ive grown out and the LEAST i could be told is hey were buying these to sell out the shop.

id be happy knowing something ive helped grow is being sold out a shop that has a name behind it and some meaning i feel like ...:debi: not cool...

some might not agree with me but its depressing people do that to each other just for a buck . what happen to the hobby?

Happens more often then you think... Whether it's a LFS or someone reselling on 'Craigslist'...
IMO, If you were happy with the deal when you sold it, you should be fine with whatever happens after you sold it.

Did you ask him where they were going when you sold them to him? Did he lie to you about it?

He told me it was going in his personal tank after he told me the shop only sells them for 8 an polyp And they didnt have any then i called the shop and he said they have a disc with them on it for 20 a head if i wanted some cut. If he wouldve told me they were going to the shop i wasnt going to raise my price i wouldve been proud but with him trying to get me to lower it and finding out they are asking 20 a head is a dissapointment.

If he said they were going into his tank I would also be upset. He lied to you. Might as well let the cat out of the bag and tell us who it was so we know who's doing the lying

Someone whos cool w alex at top shelf aquatics and i dont talk bad about any store and i go to that store ive gotten fish from there but it really bothers me i spend my hard earn penny there to have that happen to me , i contacted the guy and now hes saying the "owner" wanted them for his "personal" tank.

If you were happy with the sale price and the buyer was happy with the purchase price, then I wouldn't get too worked up over it. Even if they said it was going in their tank. It happens all the time.

I gotta agree with Ranlexus here... I get his point. We sell frags to each other for a fraction of the cost of the store. Why do we do this? Because we are all hobbyists who don't mind helping out each other. What that guy did is deceitful & he took advantage of your kindness and generosity so he can make a quick buck. I totally see why you feel ripped off. But at the same time, don't let it discourage you, just remember that guy and remember to not sell to that guy for "hobbyist" prices.

yeah I sold nice fruit loop colony in my background picture for well under retail value had atleast 200 polyps on it................. I know the person I sold it to was from a store and he told me it was going in his personal tank.....I really didn't want to follow up with him and see if he sold it or not.

I guess I don't fully understand being upset. I suppose if you were selling them with the intention of helping someone out in a fiscal sense, I could see your point. But if you are just trimming for housekeeping purposes and looking to recoup your troubles, I don't see the big deal. This is the way selling works.

You don't see stores complaining that you are reselling the corals you purchased from them, do you?

Let's keep in mind that while demonizing the stores who charge higher prices, the money they make is the REASON we not only acquire some fantastic pieces, but the reason that we have coral at all. If it weren't for them, you wouldn't have anything to trade to begin with.

I share in this sentiment.

You Nailed it on the head. Exactly what I was thinking.

I don't have a problem with the store reselling the coral, I have a problem with the lying. They told him they were specifically buying for their own personal tank at home, not to resell.

Correct?

Yeah I missed his second response... after reading that I agree pretty shady and I can see why that upsets you. To flat out lie about it is just wrong.

You know this response should be framed up on a wall. Love it truely do, makes me want to give stores a little more credit for spreading the love of different types of corals in general when in a community fraggers hand :)

We probably should just chalk this one up for a loss. I see where this is going and I am not sure that it will end well.

well said...

i can understand being upset about someone lying to you. that is wrong. i have learned to just let things go when i sell them. no longer mine, so they can do with it what they wish. it's not worth getting wound up about :)

rastas

rastas

What is being said here about top shelf aquatics isn't totally correct, guy who bought the rastas brought them into the store for credit towards a fish purchase. Lrs didn't know where this guy got these from and simply gave him credit towards the fish like they do for anyone trading something for something else. They they sell 1 polyp for 20pp but multiple polyps go for 10pp. Top shelf is the most reputable lrs in central florida and has no need to rip anyone off. They have their own suppliers who they buy from at wholesale costs and have no need to go around sending a rep to pick up our corals at wholesale or below cost.

here's an example of how reputable they are, in front of me a customer brought in australian Duncan with a hundred heads on it customer was willing to take 50 to 75 dollars in store credit for it. The owner of the shop said that he would not pay him such a small amount because it was unfair for what the value of the coral was and simply offered to hold it for him while he set up his new tank. Customer thanked him for his honesty and took him up on the offer to hold the coral for him. This beautiful piece would have brought profits in the hundreds for top shelf aquatics but honesty prevailed over profits.

This being said I highly doubt top shelf aquatics would have knowingly send someone out to buy these guys rastas to later resell at the store.

I have taken corals into top shelf aquatics and gotten twice what I would have thought in store credit That is without any bartering. I like to sell to other hobbyist but when a piece doesn't sell because it is to common or for whatever reason store credit is a nice alternative. They are also very honest when it comes to the equipment they sell. On multiple occasions the guys there have shown me the online prices of other vendors before I purchased a piece of equipment.
