very sad day
very sad day
Hi Jimmer,
Thank you! If you allow me to hitchhike your topic a little I like to make some questions.
I really don't understand what happened. The betta started a weird behaviour at night. First he/she looks like freightned and I think the problem was PBT agression, but after some time watching what are happening I saw that PBT looked more freightned by the Marine Betta behaviour than any other thing. The betta appers to be swiming against its own reflection on the bottom and sides of the tank. Have you ever seen your betta doing that? I also never heard that it's a jumper.
They and a small black molly fish (live food) was the only fishes in the 55 gallon QT so I think they have enough space (PBT is 2 and a half inches and the betta is 4 inches).
After sometime i returned the molly was gone and the betta appears to be gasping. The molly was there since saturday and I can't find it anyware so I concluded the betta eat it. The betta become more and more "nervous" and gasping. I turned the lights off to avoid more lesions (he/she lost some scales near the head). After one hour, when i turned the lighs on it appers to be sedated.
I'm thinking in try another one but they are difficult to find in Brazil. I always admired marine bettas but never had one until this unfortunate experience. A problem i realized is that they are (at least mine was) very slow to take food. It could be a problem because I have a Harlequin tuskfish and a large Zebrassoma desjardinii (the size of a dessert dish) that are very agressive feeders.
Was yours slow to take food too? Was it very shy (hidden most of the time)?
Marine betta is one of my favorites! Shame on me to let the beautiful poor creature die...
Best regards,
marcelo.
