Sad day

It's a sad day here in my house I had a algae outbreak in my 72 gal. so the family decided to help me clean up the tank some. well I think a wooden spoon with a cloth to clean the inside of the tank. After we cleaned the tank the family went out for the evening, when we retuned I noticed bubbles on top of the water and my cleaner shrimp were on the opposite side of the tank and acting funny, I asked where the spoon was and told they got it out of the dish washer , I truly believe the spoon must have had some detergent residue on it, buy the time I could react the shrimp had died and my lettuce were also dead the only thing that was still moving were my hermit crabs. (I had no fish in the tank). So I need to tear the whole tank down, but I would like to know can I save my live rock and if so how and do I have to cycle my tank again? I know I can't use the sand again unless I clean the heck out of it.

how old was the tank?
and dont freak out on any algae outbreak during cycling or while youre tank is new, algae are normal.
maybe show a pick to us that would help
it say make a bigger water cange and wait, test the water for nitrite and ammonia.

Whoa there slow down.

So you suspect some detergent residue. Have you or do you run carbon? If not then run some. You could also get some poly filter and see if it grabs anything out of the water. Do some WC's, keep an eye on things and take a breath. Good luck

This is spot on, unless they flat out poured detergent into the tank, you should be able to potentially salvage the tank with some WC's. might set you back a week or two, but potentially very salvageable.

No I did not use any carbon the only thing I did was scrap the algae and change the water and yes I used RODI water. The tank is 7 months old I have had fish and the shrimp have been in the tank for 6 months. I have done water changes before with no problems. all my levels are were g right the salinity was 1.025 the same as it was in the tank.

I was saying you do not need to tear your tank down. Run some carbon do some WC's. You can try a polyfilter and just keep an eye on things. Good luck just my 2 cents worth.
