Well, it's a sad day in the Freshbrew aquarium. I came home to a dead Mimic Tang, a Dead Sailfin Tang and a dead target mandarin. Checked my levels and everything seems right. But the amonia tester I have sucks. I noticed what looked like litte bubbles all over my mimic tang the day before yesterday, but was unable to do any intervention. I lost (disppeared) my blenny on fri night/sat morning and thought it might be him, so I moved my rocks around to see if I could find him, but to no avail.

No I look at my clown and see a white oblong patch on his forhead, near one of his eyes, so I suppose he will die next. Maybe I don't have an aqua thumb.

Well trying to do some water changes, but not have much luck, my water is way to cold, have to buy some heaters tomorrow.

I just don't understand what killed the fish, the amonia levels seem like they are fine (this is the test I have trouble reading because it never has matched any of the colors on the chart they gave.) But the other tests are good, except the Ph, which has fallen from 8.2 to 7.8.....:(

Aww man - so sorry to hear that! Let us know if there is anything we can do. Have some heaters you can borrow if you need to.
 
Chris, I didn't know your ph was that low. Did you check it this evening? If so, that means your morning ph was probably around 7.6 and that will cause some serious problems. We need to check your mag levels to see if maybe this is the cause. I will be over Thursday to run some tests.

Also, take your heater out of your display and use it to warm the new water. Being out of the display won't change fast enough to notice.
 
Sorry to hear that. What brand test kit is the ammonia?

Low pH can be a problem, but I'm not sure if it would kill those fish that quickly.
 
Man, that sux big time! Sorry for your loss. 90 gallons of water, 10% is only 9 gallons. Depending on the temp of your new water, it should not drop the temp too much. You could always do 5 and wait a couple of hour and do 5 more.
 
It sounds like a parasite, I will probably spell this wrong but amyloodinum is close, it forms white patches like you described on one of the fish. I would imagine the ph crash and water temp maybe lowered the fishes natural immune system and the parasite was able to really go nuts then. This is one theory anyway.
 
Sorry to hear about your losses Chris, I hope you can find the problem and correct it before the clown has issues too. If there is anything I can help you with, just let me know. I just use a crappy AP amonia test kit because I almost never check for amonia after the tank is cycled.

What kind of water are you using for your fresh makeup? I would check the Ph of your makeup water too.
 
Wow, that definitely blows. Sorry for your losses. What and when did add your last fish? I could have had some sort of illness or parasite? Could be your make up water too. Is it tap or RO/DI? You could have had a massive die off on your flatworms that poisoned the tank too. Did you notice any red specks floating around?
 
Man that really sucks. I hate loosing fish and especially when there doesn't seem to be a reason. I lost my Copper Banded Butterfly earlier this week and I am not sure why. The only thing that was off was the salinity (1.030 :( ) and I really don't know how that got so high.
 
Well to answer some of your questions, I was using RO/DI water from Pet Paradise in Pueblo and discovered that their RO water reads .170+- on the TDS meter, so I guess no, I'm not using RO water. The last fish I added was the Mandarin to eat the flatworms, he seemed okay, but what do I know? The flatworms are flourishig, so I don't think thats the prob. According to the tests I did last night, my peramiters are where they should be with the crappy amonia test being the only question. Thanks guys and I'm moving toward getting this fixed or getting another hobby, like collecting dead fish, lol
 
Chris, do the spots on your fish look like little cotton balls or are they little specks? If it is the cotton balls, then it is because your water perameters are not very good and need to be fixed. If it is little speck then it is probably ich and the fish will need to be treated. The cotton balls in also known as Lymphocystis and should inprove with better water quality.
 
Well now I am really confused, I tested my Ph prior to changing water and it read 8.4, so I guess I just don't know what I am doing.
