Sailfin in QT with "torn fins"? Issue?

I recently purchased a pink square anthias and sailfin tang which are in QT together in a 35 gallon QT tank..
Here they are yesterday (got 'em friday):

Today the sailfin appears to have something up with his top fin..

Should I be worried about this? I'm not sure if the anthias was picking on him or if he just injured himself from the stress of moving.

Both fish are accepting food readily and are active in the QT tank.

I can always put an eggcrate divider in the tank to separate them if anyone thinks the anthias is the culrpit.

Thanks!

I would suspect agression, although the anthia is not the typical culprit, but who else could it be? I dont think seperating is really necessary either. the fins should heal quickly (sometimes in about 24 hours).

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to hear that the fins will heal up quckly. Hopefully they learn to like each other since they've got 4 more weeks together before they're released into the main thank. :)

I would use the eggcrate cause the stress of transfer + injury could = dead. I would let him heal and feed him well, let them work out their differences in the main tank. there they can devolop boundaries

Good points. I've been feeding him many times a day and each time he eats like a pig, so he'll definitely have the energy to heal. I will have to pick up some eggcrate and try a boundary between the two sides.

to be honest, I disagree. unless the QT tank is really big, you'll be cutting the swimming room in half for these two VERY active fish. and bumping into a relatively course and rough eggcrate will have damaging effects. If aggression is not appearing to continue, I see no reason to seperate them. If aggression DOES continue, then maybe this is a necessity.

I've stopped by to observe them for the rest of the weekend. They both seem to be getting along alright now; even during feeding.. I think for now I will probably leave them together but keep the eggcrate on hand just in case any more bullying occurs.

I do notice that both love to swim the length of the tank and I'd hate to get in the way of them doing that. I purposely got the 36" long 35g tank versus a more boxy one so that there'd be better swimming length for "laps".

The sailfin continues to eat heartily, gobbling up all the flake and little chunks of Nori I put in. The anthias is eating, but generally keeps away from the more active sailfin while he eats.

Thanks for all the input all!
