Sailfin Tang

Of those available options I would get the Maracyn 2 and use it in conjunction with the erythromycin. Erythromycin is the active ingredient used in Maracyn 1, so they should be compatible.

This is so frustrating! Day two of trying Maracyn 2 along with the Erthromysin. The fish looks the exact same. It's still eating, not noticing any visual improvement though. Do you any of you guys have any idea what this is about.. I'm going to order some furan 2 and i will give that a try, but I don't see how one med is so much better.. I feel like these meds should be able to do something.

Antibiotics are notorious for being slow acting. The fish may not look like it's getting better, but if this is indeed a bacterial infection, he's probably getting better.

So I don't get it, but the only time these spots are visible is when the sailfin decides to change his shade to the black. He does it randomly throughout the day. When he does you can see all those spots clear as day. When he light, like this video... You can't tell anything is on him. Does this make you guys think that maybe it's just a scar on the fish body or that it's something he is doing to change his color pattern?

I haven't owned a sailfin in a long time; do they get splotchy (like nasos) when stressed?

Honestly, I think this fish looks fine. A lot better than some of your previous videos. I think what you are doing is working.

I know it's common for sailfins to change their color patter from light to dark. I'm not sure about those blotches though. That's what I have been saying is that when the fish is showing it's light colors you can't see anything on it. When it switches to dark it's covered in those blotches. The fish has been eating great all along. This is going on week three of having it. I don't want to keep dosing it with meds if this is just a scar on the fish and there isn't really anything wrong with it.

Okay, I am going to do two more days of maracyn two then do 1 more round of prazipro. If nothing appears better I think I am going to just take the fish straight to the DT. Part of me is thinking these are scars on the fish. If anyone else has any other ideas I would love to hear them. This is my plan of action as of right now.

Okay guys, what would you do. I feel bad putting this fish through any more meds. It is eating non stop. It looks healthy as can be minus these patches. Could these just be scars on the fish? They haven't spread, they haven't changed in appearance. The only time you can see it is when the fish changes his shade to dark. When he is the light colors you can't really see it unless you look close. I pulled all of the bacterial meds out tonight and gave him fresh water and dosed with prazi pro. I am doing this until Friday... I would like to hear what you guys would do though at this point.

Thanks

Okay, I think I might be on to something. So last night I dosed prazipro just to cross check things. Sure enough tonight I looked at the fish and I see black spots on the fish. I think this guy has some internal worms and they are trying to surface out of the fish.

Do you guys know if those black dots are the worms itself or if it is a reaction to the worm? The fish has been twitches its fins a lot tonight. I figured it was the worms either dead and the body is trying to get rid of them or they are trying to move around because of the prazi..

Do the worms come out of the fish or do they die inside the fish? I'm just curious what I should be expecting from the fish!

Okay guys I need help or ideas otherwise I'm putting this fish down.. Prazipro definitely did something not sure what. But the following day after dosing it the fish had about 10 black pigmentations under the skin. These went away by the next day. The fish is still eating just fine. Although whatever the original problem was is now on it's fins. So it is spreading, but at a slow pace. Another thing I noticed tonight the fish has 5 spots on it that are brown. These are definitely larger than ich . I'm not sure what these are... I was thinking about trying hypo to see if there was some kind of worm or something that the prazi just isn't kicking..

I'm at loss, need ideas.

Yes he is eating, but whatever we are dealing with nothing is stopping it right now. It's not going to magically get better until we can properly diagnose what it is. I'm honestly clueless right now. I'm still not sure if we are dealing with a parasite, bacteria or some kind of worms.. The discoloration of the skin made me think it was bacterial.. I have been treating with three different meds and none of them are working. I tried the furan 2 at double dose for a treatment and it hasn't done a thing.. The prazipro made the fish really discolor pigment wise with black spots showing up the day after. I don't know if it killed a bunch of stuff and the fish body was reacting to the medicine? Then now I am dealing with these brown spots on the fish that are bigger than ich ...

That's what I am asking you guys for help to narrow this down to what in the heck it is for proper treatment.

Since you've tried all these meds, and nothing has completely knocked whatever this is out - I would now suggest a different approach. Remove all meds from the water, and just wait & see what happens. Maybe it's a negative reaction to the meds that's actually causing all the problems. Or maybe this is something which the fish's natural immune system has to fight off on it's own, or it kills him. Every now and then you'll run into something that's just not treatable.

I would just QT him long-term, feed him plenty and hope for the best. Whatever is wrong will either get better in time or it will most likely kill him. Either way, what do you have to lose at this point?

I think I am going to actually try hypo. That is the only thing different that I did with the Sailfin and the Powder brown. Both fish came out of the same water and the Powder brown has been healthy ever since doing hypo. I received both with worms. Part of me is wondering if prazi just isn't doing the job. I'm going to start dropping it down and do hypo for a week and see if I notice any improvement. This fish has the strongest appetite I have seen out of any tang I have ever owned.. So that is one thing it has going for it. It's been eating a 4 inch by 4 inch sheet of nori every day that has been soaked in vitachem and selcom. I am switching up daily on the color and brand of it. As well as doing 1 feeding a day mysis or brine to keep protein intake up. I have soaked those foods as well.
