Salifert mag test

Just got the test kit. Did 3 tests got 3 different readings. The average of the 3 is about 1050. Went to brs to get amount of mag and its telling me 41oz. Does this sound right. I went ahead and put 16oz. How long do I wait to put in the rest. The test kit was very difficult to use and read. Not happy with it at all. The syringe that you add drops with had an air bubble and the instructions said that was normal. Expected alot better kit for 30 freakn dollars.

I like the Salifert mag test kits very much. How off were the readings from each test? If it was a matter of +/-.2-4ml then it might be user error. The kit should have came with a tip and should be used. The air in the syringe will not matter as 1500 would require the use of the full 1ml of the solution.

As for how much to add, we would need to know what your using to dose the mag and target mag level. If it's the BRS mag, they recommend raising it up by 100ppm a day but it wouldn't hurt to add it all at once either. I would dose and test 24hrs later, if needed more then do so accordingly.

I agree that we need to know the tank volume to say much. If the results are accurate, I would raise the magnesium to about 1285 ppm over a few days.

90 gallons total. Using the brs 2 part mag. 1st test s 1250 2nd was 1150 3rd was 1050. I added 16oz and will add 16oz this morning. Test again this evevning.the syrnge has an air gap when drawing the drip solution. And that makes me think theirs is noway it could be accurate.

The syringe should have an air gap in it and that is exactly accounted for in the way the syringe works. Do not try to get rid of it. It is the air volume of the tip.
