Salifert Organics Test kit?

It can be worthwile if the tank is a chesspool. It is not sensitive enough for relatively clean aquariums.

So if one could find this kit in the states, which I have not been able to, it could be used to let hobbyists know that they really need to do something to reduce the organics. So any reading other than zero is too high?

Yes, cesspool.


Orgnanics? .

It measures several phenolics. Activated carbon would remove most of the.

It will always give a reading above zero, because there is a treshold to get a slight coloration. Hence also the low sensitivity.

Thanks for the offer, but I am more interested in what levels you detected and if you saw changes in the reading at any point when feeding fish foods, adding supplements, vodka dosing......etc.

Phenols represent a large chemical variation in reef waters, some related to toxins produced by different algae I believe. Perhaps some coral toxins are phenols, I don't remember off hand?

I can certainly do a few tests for you. I only used it on the basis of a general idea of organics in my water. I never went as far as to test after doing or food additions.
Let me run a few tests with this test kit and give you some feedback. I can add my WELL RESPECTED REEF SNOW tonight and test accordingly!!!
Ahhh, phenols.............the reason why I stay away from dedicated ATS filters.........
