Salifert vs Red Sea

I accidentally bought an ALK test kit from Red Sea and realized I have one from Salifert. Problem is I already opened the Red Sea one so I can't return it.

I'm only keeping one of the two, the other will be traded to whoever wants it for a frag of something.

Which one do you guys think is more accurate? Red Sea is definitely easier to use.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were close to each other. I believe the Salifert allows you to do a higher resolution test by decreasing the # of drops. Where as Red Sea is only whole points. I'm not sure I used the right terminology. But era the instructions and you'll see what I mean.

Maybe do a test with both and compare.

I haven't had opportunity to test the new Red Sea Pro kits, but the regular Red Sea kits I've found to be off by more than many other kits. Always found the Salifert kits very good.

I have used only salifert for year. Lets us know if the other gives you the same results. Do a test. Can't get a better answer to your question than by doing a few tests samples. Your testing will help us all. Keep us posted

I think the salifert kit is easy to use, and the color-change is colorblind friendly, LOL! I will say that as I got to the end of my kit, it became very inaccurate. I don't know if it was coincidence, or if it became contaminated. I noticed that the test kit was reading a plummeting alk, and I had no reason to believe that should be happening. I started to correct it, but thankfully I tested with the standardized solution and my test kit was reading 2dKh low. Now I'm using Hanna, but I feel the Salifert was just as easy as the Hanna is. Would only take a few minutes to check. No experience with the Red Sea kit here.

x2, ran into the same problems with redsea but who knows now days they may be more accurate? Salifert has usually been on the money for me

lol...i actually have the hannah also....i bought the red sea because i was out of hannah reagent and thats when i realized i still had a Salifert.

I did compare the the hannah to the red sea and they were very close together. Did not compare to Salifert though

I'll do all 3 and let you guys know. Should be a fun experiment.

I had compared to Salifert and it was right on with it. If you need extra reagent let me know as I have 1 extra refill for the hanna. Forgot I had bought and ordered again lol

Thanks Armando....I ended up getting refills from BRS. DR. T - great idea to order from Amazon...never had thought of that. Free shipping with Prime!!! Can't beat that! I'm gonna start looking for more aquarium stuff on Amazon also.

I would like to just buy the syringe and cup holder that RedSea uses, and use the salifert reagents.

SALIFERT NEEDS TO START SELLING INDIVIDUAL REAGENTS- am i right?

That would be great!

As for the tests, I finally got around to testing with all three:

1) Hannah Digital - 8.7
2) Red Sea - 8.5
3) Salifert - 9.3
