salinity of Liveaquaria order

Put in an order for the first time with Liveaquaria, shipping from California. Finally made it after the bad weather delay. Shipment was great and all fish feeding after putting them in quarantine yesterday. What I was surprised about was the salinity or the incoming water. I have a lab grade refractometer and read the salinity at 25 ppt. Seems lower than what would be expected. I am going through the tank transfer method for ich so I can slowly get back to 35 ppt before adding to the tank. Has anyone else got an order in with this low of salinity?

Every order I've received from LA has had a relative SG of 1.018-1.019. Diver's Den SG is 1.025.

Same! I think fish at about 1.018 - 20 (25 ppt) is pretty normal.

Setup your QT to about 1.020, float the newcomer for 15 mins. while adjusting tank to match bag water, and pour in the fish. Absent some really lousy luck, you'll never lose a fish to acclimation shock again.

LA, BZ and PIA all run about 1.018 to 1.020 in my experience.

Since I switched to this method, I haven't had any losses due to acclimation. It works.

Exactly. I see far too many people have no clue about how to acclimate fish. They think that 2 hours of drip acclimation is the way to go and it is definitely not the right way.

So pour the bag water into the QT? Just want to make sure I understand as I've always read to ditch the water in the bag.

This. I use a mesh strainer. The water itself is likely not a good idea.

Wait. I did not lose any fish in this shipment. I did lower my salinity down to 25 ppt to match the shipment water. But it took me a little time to do this but was able to float the bags to get temp right while in the process. Will slowly get salinity back to 35 ppt before adding fish to DT after quarantine. I agree you do not need to do anything except get temp right and salinity right and add to QT keeping shipping water separate. My question was just on incoming salinity which was answered. Next time I will have water salinity correct before I pick up my shipment which will make it easier on me. Thanks.
