Salinity probe life???

I think mine died today as i awoke today to buzzing, It read 1.0508. I knew this was off so i cleaned with a soft toothbrush and rodi. Still the same thing. I tried to calibrate it and it reads the same. I am hoping its a error of some sort. $200+ for a probe that has to be replaced this fast is a bummer. :(

Matthias, why not the better stainless models used??
Looks like mine is dead after 4 mos of use and letting it sit for a year in distilled water.

Anybody else using the salinity probe that can share thier cleaning methods?

As I said to you in email and Matthias will reply the same way, because stainless cant be used for salt water and secondly leaving the probe in distrilled water and not the correct storage solution will oxidise the probe.

If yours has oxidised too much beyond calibration it has nothing to do with 4 months use I am afraid but 100% to do with leaving in distilled water for over a year. sorry :(

Hope that helps
Best wishes
Michael

They do not make replaceable salinity probes.

If you get another probe (GHL) and store it in the correct solution or use it and maintain it, they new probe will last you a very long time :)

would it be possible to have a sticky of the proper procedure to clean and maintain all the different probes available from GHL?

I'm looking to store my conductivity probe, and am confused on what is the correct storage solution.

This is quoted from the spec sheet supplied with the probe.

"Conductivity cells with platinized or graphite electrodes should be stored with the protective cap or storage container filled with deionized/distilled water."

Will I have similar results as Creetin did if I follow the storage instructions?
