I have a 20 gallon nano with some live rock and a few soft corals so far, it seems the salinity keeps going up and down. i have my refuguem tank marked where it was at 1.025 but that didnt seem to keep things kosher. have been doing my weekly water changes,it seems like when i get towards a week is when it starts flucuating the most. any suggestions anybody?

Welcome to Reef Central! How are you checking it. Some ways are more accurate than others. Also specific gravity depends on temperature, could it be part of your issue? Also your skimmer could be removing salt with the skimate.

Hmmm... nano's are certainly more difficult due to the evapoation creating larger spike in a smaller volume of water. typoically though if you are topping off you equal out.

What are you topping with? Are you using SW to top? Are you even topping off or just doing water changes? How much evaporation would you estimate you have in a day/week?

How are you measuring your salinity. Get a refractometer if you don't have one they are more accurate (make sure you calibrate it). Keep your extra saltwater in a holding tank keeping that at a stable level is a good thing. Make it ahead of time so the salt has time to dissolve before you use it for a H2O change. Top off your tank with your plain (RO/DI) water. Your salinity should not fluccuate that much.
