Salinity test

Hi all,
I've had my new Biocube up for a month now (curing dry rock, frag live rock) and I forgot to be testing salinity. I just tested and its high (1.029) so I'm topping off with rodi (which I was doing anyway). Since I have no livestock I'm not too concerned yet but should I do a water change (it's a 29 gallon Biocube) and how often do you test salinity? I live in Arizona so evaporation is more prevalent.

I test weekly with my water changes, I figure I have to bust out the refractometer to test my make-up water, so I might as well test my tank so I can adjust it accordingly. I learned the hard way to first make sure that the device you are using to test is accurate before making any decisions to adjust based on its readings. If it is indeed 1.029, I would just take a small amount of water out each day (maybe just a few cups or so) and replace with fresh water. Test each day until you are at your desired range.

Same here.

If your just cycling the tank, you mentioned no livestock, I would just drain some water off and add RO/DI until its where it should be. Nothing in there to harm with a sudden drop, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I would empty about 1-2 gallons into a buckets. Adjust the sg in the tank to what you want with Rodi. Do the same for the bucket water. Then add the bucket water back into the tank until your tank is full again.
