sally lightfoot crabs?

i say NO!!! to any crabs in a reef tank. snails & shrimp only. no turbo snails!, Nasserius, and Astrea are all ive used for many years. :D

cleaner shrimp or peppermints are the only cleaners i would use in a reef too.
peppermints love Apstasia Anemones, cleaners eat missed foods by fish as well as the peppermints.

FWIW, i only have peppermints, they do a great job, and i try not to over-feed, but they still get scraps and clean the LR...

sally lightfoot crabs have a reputation for being "good crabs". their flat bodies also allow them to get at and clean detritus stuck in cracks and crevices.

Can peppermints and cleaners be in a tank together without fighting?

Yes they can be together. I've have 2 cleaner and 2 peppermint together in a 58 gallon for a while now without any issues. Typically the peppermint shrimp in my experience will hide all day long and only come out when lights are out.

I have a sally in my 120 sps with no issues.. only issues i got with crabs are the ones that hitchhiked there way in.. like gorilla crabs.. they seem to love super glue.. toss frags everywhere.. my hermits used to do the same.. as far as skunk cleaners and peppermints. i cant keep both.. the skunks killed every peppermint i put in so far.. which is a bummer since i got some apatisia. ... i agree about the snails as clean up crews over the crabs. i only got the sally cause i thought it was cool looking.

i have a sally light foot and he is a model citizen, doesnt move anything around only cleans. They are also really cool. I say go for it ;)

Sally lightfoot I got killed a small blue tang. I had to tear down half the setup to get the bugger out of there. IMO they're not reef safe.

If it killed a small blue tang I would say they're more than not reef safe. Seems to be a 50/50 debate right now though.

I had to remove one from my tank a couple of weeks ago because once he got big he began killing fish. He killed two before I could get him out. He had been great for the previous 7 or 8 months.

i think it all comes down to.... do you feel lucky??? got to keep in mind that its survival of the fittest. if they run out of there natural eats there gonna change there habits to survive.other wise there done for. this is the case for most things that get a bad rap. theres alot to take into consideration with live stock. everyones tanks are different, feeding habits, husbandry ect. ect.. that all comes onto play.

Lets just say that if you would stop feeding your tank that "sally" would be one of the last "men" standing. LOL

Yeah, I think I just might pass. I don't feel too lucky with these. However I do have a smaller set up waiting, maybe if I choose a species tank for it I'll re-consider.
Thanks for all the input everyone!

I think my sally killed a couple of clownfish in my big tank so I gave it away to a friend. It promptly ate a powder blue in his new tank. They are cute until they get bigger then they go rogue. I would not put another in my tank.
