Salt homogeneity question

Done, thank you Randy, it is good to see you around. Let me know if you have any follow up questions but I have seen this a few times with the bulk packaging and I have read quite a bit in books to see if there is mention of this problem. I am not sure if our way is just old fashioned or it was knowledge lost to time and economics of scale but the Innes Atlas in particular mentioned this problem. The only other thing I can think of is other brands seem to use a clay material as a desiccant and perhaps this also acts as a binder or has some interaction with the salt if it was anhydrous and attracted to the moisture of the desiccant. Ours has no desiccant material, it is very hygroscopic, I am sure most salts are but I can say from experience, an open bucket will almost form a slurry on its own in a humid environment. However this sort of damage has the opposite effect the user described, Ca and Mg bind to the carbonates and precipitate and read very low.
