Hello, I am in the midst of building a system and I believe I will be going with an LPS tank, Is their a specific salt that is better than another for this? Also I am running 3 MH 250w 20,000k my tank depth is 16 inches, I have my lights on a pulley system so they can be moved up and down as needed, Does this sound ok?

As far as salt goes, I've used IO, IO reef crystals, and Red Sea Coral Pro. I've found Red Sea to be the best. It mixes very easily and freshly mixed water has Ca/Alk/Mg (mixed to 35 ppt) values that are very near what I aim for.

You should have plenty of lighting for LPS, I might supplement some 10000K in there though.

Pulley system needs a hard emergency stop above the water with room to spare. Seems like a lot of light, but I don't know your tank size and how far the lights are above the water.

The salt brand isn't as important. What matters is what your parameters are at. Just check your Alk, Ca, and Mag to keep them on spec.
