i know its been a while, since we have seen a "what salt you are using" thread, but i am re-evaluating my salt mix.
.
currently i am using coralife scientific grade. have been for sometime. recently i ran across a fellow reefer who is using tropic marin. he wasnt pushing the issue, but asked me to do some research and see for myself
.
i can remember reading on RC a very good article about reef salt from R.Farley, but cant find it. hitting the search button on here is a crap shoot at best. (i know why... thanks).
.
soooo.. what are you using??

IO.

BTW, what do people do to stop the salt from caking? I was thinking of putting some rice in a media bag and putting it in the bucket. Rice (evidently) is a good poor mans dessicant...

???

natural salt water! :)

gotta be the monkey in the wrench sometime! wait a sec...that doesnt even make sense!!!

Mine doesn't cake. What I do is transfer some into a smaller container (easier for me to open), and cap off the original bucket. I only open the original when I need to refill the smaller one. I keep both of them stored in a dry area (in my garage away from the tank).

shall we keep going??? so far tropic marin 14 -5 from seachem. no one liked the others. IO gets 3 for write in's. 1 write in for NSW.
.
now, if i do switch salts, how does one go about doing so?
.
i am no scientist, but as far as salt is conserned. tropic marin is a few more $$ than the rest. is there a reason why? just like a BMW is more $$ than a Ford. better quaility??
