Hi guys and gals,

i have always used Instant Ocean salt and i somehow want to change to Red Sea Coral Pro Salt. i keep many carpets, roses and BTAs in the same system. I have used the IO salt for as long as i started reefing almost 20 years ago :fish1:

My question is: if it's not broken, do i need to fix it? :hammer:

i dont know, i just want some new salt for my corals to grow more.......

i was wondering what you guys used in your anemone tanks, and if changing salt brand would have an adverse effect on my beautiful anemones.

What is wrong with the IO? There is no gurantee that a new salt will make your anemones grow more, and whatever extra nutrients you get from the salt can be dosed appropriately with chemicals.

Just my .02

I am currently using SeaChem's reef formula. In the past I used TM Pro, and had very good results. I did try the TM bioactive crap, in hindsight I believe it was the final straw that took out my blue S. haddoni.

hi thanks guys for your input.

Todd, look like you did try something different and once ran into some issue. it scrares me to change now so i think i stay put. like i said, it wasn't broken, i just want to try, but not worth the risk. come to think of it, if i change salt, it means that i am asking my nems to acclimate to new salt and it's not something i want......

I'm currently using Korallen-Zucht reef crystals. I've been having great luck with this salt in both of my tanks. My Carpet and RBTAs are doing great and growing to beat the band.

I'm no expert here, but if your tank is healthy and thriving I personally would not change a thing.

I just switched from RC to RSCPro and I haven't been that impressed. While the numbers test just as advertised I have had some issues with the mixing of the salt.
The first batch of water I made mixed very well, but the next batch left a nasty white chalk over the entire trash can and power head. After some research it was suggested to roll the bucket prior to use. Rolling the bucket worked and the salt mixed better, but I guess I just wasn't expecting to have to roll a 50 lb bucket in my utility room after spending nearly double for the salt.

JMHO

I have switched to the ESV salt and absolutely love it. It mixes crytal clear, leaves no residue, and can be used minutes after mixing. My haddoni, malu, and crucifers do well with it.

I used IO for a long time but lately I am using Oceanic. I added Ca/Bicarb and Mag. My corals and clams grow just fine.
