Salt survey

IO and Reef Crystals mixed in equal portions usually. If my alk is a little low I typicaly just use IO and if other things like calcium are more on the low end I'll use Reef Crystals.

Morton's!

Oh, do you mean in the tank? Just started using Brightwell NeoMarine , only because I had a $20 coupon and it's made in the USA. Too soon to really evaluate how the inhabitants are responding . Switched from Tropic Marin Pro Reef which I didn't like, only got a dKH of 7 at best, Brightwell's is 10 - 12 dKH.

Use mostly RC right now... Considering switching to Brightwell... Jury is still out... ;)

i switch between red sea max and RC...but i also like corlife salt...you get cheesy t-shirts when you buy buckets....the last t shirt that came with had nothing but gobies all over it.

had been using crystal sea and recently switched to brightwell it mixes 100% right on what the bag says it is a great salt have done a couple of water changes with it now and probably plan on switching back to crystal sea because with brightwell i have notice alkalinity and ph to be very unstable.

I've had just the opposite response with Brightwell. pH and Alk have never been so stable and I've been able to cut back the amount of alk suppliment. Mg has remained steady at 1320 for 3 weeks w/o suppliment, I do 10 - 15 % H2O change per week. Calcium is a bit low 350 -380 .

Ok so you know we are new to the hobby and crystal sea is the only other salt I have ever used. Most people you talk to will say there salt is garbage, but we seem to get really good results with it. I do believe brightwell is an excellent salt but I have never had to add kalwasser or anything other than straight calcuim to keep me around the 450 to 480 and usually only have to add this once a week or so. and with crystal sea everything stays stable no swings with anything (and i even use tap water!) So I was so excited about brightwell but have been using it about a month now and just do not get the same stability.

All these differences are very interesting.

I think whatever you guys use...if it works then stick with it.

Most of the pros mix salts, don't they?

Mel, I do not think my water is as clear since I changed either, not sure if the salt would have anything to do with that. If I could come get that huge vat in your store I could just use Atlantic Ocean salt!!!

Hey mcCabe ive seen a big difference in clarity with different salt mixes. Personally ive been using TMPR for a couple years now and have been really happy with it. I am a little tempted now that my buckets about done to get on the brightwell. Seems to get mixed results....what doesnt though I suppose.

Usually Oceanic / IO (or RC) / SeaChem here. Oceanic for the Mg boost w/o massive alkalinity (like IO/RC), IO/RC for alkalinity balance and cost, and SeaChem for borate alkalinity. However, the new RC is quite high in Ca and Mg so I may have to rethink my strategy. I wish they wouldn't make salt mixes with 10-13 dKH alkalinity as that is too high IME. Look at the Brightwell numbers, it is low in Ca and Mg and high in Alk.

My husband went in the Coral Reef today and they now are stocking Crystal Sea bioassay 150gal box for $30.00 this is awesome! You guys should at least give it a try for this price!
