salt types

I know this is going to be very opionated but is there a specific type of salt that is better than other type?

If I start with one type does it cause any problems if I switch to a different type?

Do you get what you pay for?

Is there a cheap place on the web to buy it?

I used to use Instant Ocean, than changed to Coralife Salt and stuck with that for over a year. Then after I moved I cant find the Coralife Salt anymore so now I use the Instant Ocean again and have had no problem what-so-ever.

Yes.. salt is salt. However, the minerals are in the salt which makes one better than the other.

I'm using 50/50 Instant Ocean/Oceanic salts

I dont know if I would do that, I would stick with a good name brand. Depending on if you were to buy bags or the bucket of salt, the bucket's are all about the same price as well as most bags.
I would go with a good name brand.

Reef crystals is a good brand, but it's more expensive. The owner of the LFS I'm setting up my tank with recommends against Oceanic, as the quality can vary significantly. Most people seem to like instant ocean, and it's widely available.

Ive tried Red Sea, Oceanic, and Instant Ocean, and IME Instant Ocean works best in my tank. The Oceanic was too variable in the calcium level, and while I was using the Red Sea salt i had a phosphate spike, which may or may not be a result of the salt, but who knows...

All salts are ok, (except morton ) If there was a perfect salt out there then everyone would use it. Get whatever is available in your area on a minute's notice (in case of emergency) and what you feel comfortable paying for; and use it all the time. If down the road you'll find that it has not enough one or another chemical element, just dose it.
