salt water preparation

Hello,

I just start my first salt water tank today. I have a Fluval evo 13,5. I decided to prepare the salt water directly in the tank. I put around 11 gallons of RO/DI water then add salt (Instant Ocean Reef crystal) On the box, it's write 1/2 cup for 1 gallon. I decided to add first 4 cups then ajust slowly to have 1,025 salinity. I put my salt, then start 2 heaters to make the water be at 78 F quickly and start 2 pompe to help the salt to disolve. But after 1 hour, I still see a lot of salt not disolve and my salinity is lower that 1,020. Water temperature is almost at 78 now

It's normal? It's suppose to take many hours to desolve all the salt?

Thanks!

Use a stick or even your hand and mix the water. It is that simple. No need to engineer some complex plan for it. Pump take some time to dissolve it.

sometimes in big batches, the salt will stick on the bottom. Just break it up, so it can mix properly; that will speed it up a bit. I used Instant Ocean RC too, but after trying Red Sea's mix, I wont go back. Great product and it mixes very easily!
